THE FOUR DISCIPLINES

My weekly classes draw on four movement disciplines — each distinct, each deepening the others.

Here is what they are, where they come from, and what you can expect to experience.

Align

Deep core. Pelvic floor. Postural foundation.

The problem it solves.

A disconnection from the deep core: the result of habitual movement patterns, sitting, stress and injury. ALIGN works systematically to restore and strengthen the deep abdominal and pelvic floor muscles, rebuilding the foundation that supports the whole body.

The method: Low Pressure Fitness (LPF)

A postural and breathing restoration technique. Uses a hypopressive manoeuvre — a suction effect — that helps lift the pelvic organs, combined with slow strength-building and conscious breathing. Better breathing, posture, core strength, and a calmer nervous system.

"This is not just a class, it transformed the way I stand, walk, and carry myself every day."

FAMO Fascia Movement®

The heart of everything.

What is fascia?

The continuous web of connective tissue that envelops every muscle, bone, nerve and organ in the body. For a long time it was seen simply as packaging. We now know it is one of the most important sensory and force-transmitting structures in the body, shaping how we move, feel and age.

How FAMO works.

Works with the fascial system as a whole and the myofascial meridians (the lines of continuity from foot to head, hand to trunk) to optimise the body as an integrated system. Improves posture, multidimensional strength and elasticity, balance, and a quality of ease that carries far beyond the mat.

How it looks vs how it feels.

An onlooker might think they are watching Yoga and Pilates. The movements look similar — barefoot, on the mat, using breath. But the intention is different. FAMO is not about stretching a muscle or strengthening a joint. It is about working with the fascial system as a whole. The effect is felt differently — and, most students tell me, more lastingly.

“Stephanie was among the first to bring FAMO to the UK. She is a Senior Educator for art-of-motion, the Swiss organisation that developed the method.”

Dynamic Hatha Yoga

Alignment. Breath. Progressive flow.

Rooted in the Iyengar tradition.

A system placing great emphasis on alignment, precision and the relationship between breath and movement. Stephanie studied with Carlos Rui Ferreira, a student of BKS Iyengar, and this foundation shapes everything about how she teaches Yoga.

How the classes unfold.

Centring and breath work, building into flowing, progressive sequences. Each term Stephanie works around a theme (a family of postures, a quality of movement, a principle of alignment) so classes develop and deepen week by week.

What students feel.

Greater flexibility, yes — but more than that, a deeper connection to themselves. Through awareness, breath and individual alignment, space opens where there has been holding or restriction, shifting energy, perception and, over time, how we inhabit ourselves and meet the world. The class asks for attention, effort and a willingness to stay curious.

Suitable for: Some prior Yoga experience recommended. This is not a gentle or restorative class. Not suitable for complete beginners.

Pilates & FAMO

Classical structure. Fascia enhanced.

Two disciplines, genuinely complementary.

Traditional Joseph Pilates mat work provides the structural foundation — precise, deliberate exercises that build core strength, improve spinal mobility and develop postural awareness that changes how you move in everyday life. Stephanie trained with Alan Herdman, and in the classical Pilates tradition with Catarina Palma. She also did some training with Polestar Pilates, Madelaine Black, Cara Reeser and Claire Dunphy.

What FAMO adds.

Myofascial release, whole-body integration, elasticity and deep tissue work using soft massage balls and props to hydrate and free the connective tissue system. The result: tones, strengthens, massages and lengthens the whole body. Students leave feeling awake, balanced and more limber.

Progressive, not one-off.

Whatever discipline you choose, my classes are designed to build over the course of a term. Each week develops the theme a little further — the understanding you bring to week four is different from what you arrived with in week one. This is why I encourage regular attendance.

Drop-ins are always welcome. But if you want to know what my teaching can actually do for you, come for a term.

If that sounds like you, I'd love to have you in class.

  • "Having gone to bed tired, restless, troubled, stiff and aching I now feel really joyful. My body feels alive again and happy, resilient and ready."

    Jane

  • "Hearing your voice giving such clear instructions really is brilliant so I don’t feel so panicked you going to Portugal, as long as you promise to keep letting us do online classes with you!"
