NEW from January 2018 - Shorter Lunch Time Pilates Class

New! Starting Friday 12th January 2018

All my classes are suitable for reasonably fit and physically able practitioners but previous experience is not necessary as I will be guiding everyone in a detailed way from the beginning and building on the practice as we move through the term.

A word about Slings…..

Slings are myofascial continuities or meridians that span the body from head to toes. Postural compensation, tension, strain, fixation and resilience are all distributed via these meridians. These Slings live within a fascial webbing which contributes to our physiological health, body shape, our postural and movement patterns, perception and attitude. Our fascial architecture adapts according to our physical requirements both during rest and in motion. It’s pretty important tissue and we want to ensure we are providing it with the right stimulation so it adapts in a way that serves us best!

The Slings movement concept has been specifically developed to bring clear intention in movement training and optimizing fascia’s adaptability to bring a new dimension to movement training.

Please see the term dates section in Group Classes for all the classes.

A detailed and alignment focused class that uses the principles of Pilates combined with the Slings movement concept to optimize structural balance and movement efficiency. These classes take place on the mat using the Pilates original mat-work exercises of which there are 34. Although Stephanie uses these exercises as a guideline, and the ability to execute them as an ultimate goal, she focuses on the journey to achieving that goal.
In her opinion it is in the journey that you really make the “bodymind” connection and integrate the various parts of the human system.
This process is unique in each individual and Stephanie uses a varied approach both verbally and with props to guide the student.

A dynamic, flowing, alignment focused Yoga practice which is infused with the Slings movement concept as a constant thread for maintaining awareness of structural balance and movement efficiency. An energizing & dynamic practice to suit all levels based on the anatomical alignment of Iyengar, with the flow of vinyasa while maintaining a correct sensitivity of the breath. The practice of asana (postures) requires a high level of concentration for prolonged periods, leading the mind to a greater consciousness of the “moment”. Stephanie describes this as “meditation in movement”.

How to Begin

  • I have mats at the hall that you can borrow, however I strongly recommend you also have your own mat. For Yoga a sticky-mat and for Pilates I recommend a thicker foam mat. Let me know if you are having difficulty with this and I will do my best to help.
  • A small towel can also be useful.
  • Please wear comfortable close fitting clothes.
  • Come with an open mind and an empty belly. For Yoga, try to not eat 2 hours prior to practice. For example for the 9:15am class have your breakfast at 7am if possible
  • Please always inform me if you have any injuries or health problems before the start of class.
